nrf studiois the creative space of noreen rei fukumori is a graphic designer and artist living and working in Berkeley, California. She received a BFA in Design at the California College of the Arts (CCA) in Oakland, California; and began her graphic design career working for design/marketing firms Sidjakov Berman & Gomez; and Michael Mabry Design in San Francisco. In 1987 she accepted a position at the Studio of designer /sculptor, Takenobu Igarashi, which took her to Tokyo. After four years at Igarashi Studio, she went on to work as Art Director for Creative Intelligence Associates - Brand Architects, Inc. Her time in Japan was a vital life enhancing experience. Living in the homeland of her grandparents, who immigrated to the USA in the early 1900s, was a period of reconciling her American/Berkeley roots with qualities that resonated with Japan and its aesthetic culture. More than anything, the experience awakened a sense of connection with her inner compass and authentic voice.
Noreen returned home to Berkeley and established her studio in 1994. This was the start of practicing communication alchemy, working with clients to create brand identities, signage design, packaging and collateral material by synthesizing information and metaphor for effective marketing tools. She received the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant Graphics for chef Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, CA.
Misc Matter playfully identifies her work as an artist – a continual process of manifesting ideas and thoughts into form...
